Obesity Management Kit     Quick Links

The Obesity Management Kit includes a MyoTape™ measuring tape for measuring waist circumference and an instructional DVD developed by leading obesity researcher, Dr. Robert Ross, of the Obesity Research and Education at Queen's University.

A new study by researchers at Queen's University has shown, for the first time, that abdominal (or visceral) fat is an independent predictor of mortality in men (Kuk et al., Obesity Research 14:336-341, 2006).

These findings underline the importance of measuring abdominal fat to predict the risk of future disease and mortality. Tracking body weight and body mass index alone is not a sufficient indicator of risk. Since visceral fat is strongly correlated with waist circumference, the researchers recommend that waist measurement be a routine measure in clinical practice.

The Practitioner version provides instructions for health practitioners (physicians, nurses, health units, other primary care providers) and includes a quick reference poster, instructional DVD and MyoTape™.

The Self-measure version provides instructions for individuals who wish to measure and monitor their own waist circumference and includes an instructional booklet,  DVD and MyoTape™.

Both versions are available for purchase for $15 CDN per kit plus applicable taxes and shipping, payable by credit card, chqeue or money order.
